Ride out and Treasure Hunt...

Last Sunday morning at Phoenix Honda Grangemouth we set off for a ride out with a twist. Our route was based on an exciting treasure hunt, with prizes and clues hiding at every location.

We set off from our Grangemouth showroom and headed up to Creiff, Loch Earn and finished off in Callander.

On return to the show room we tucked into some much needed hot food and drinks, where the first lucky 20 bikers booked in for the event received their complimentary neck warmer, mug and lanyard courtesy of Phoenix Motorcycles.

ABR takes on Elephant for charity...

John with his Honda Transalp
Our very own John McLain was featured in Adventure Bike Rider Magazine, the article is about his charity bike ride...

An ex-military ABR, who left the forces due to injury, is doing the Elephant Rally solo, to raise money for Help For Heroes.

40-year-old John Mclain (no, not that one!) is planning to tackle the gruelling Bavarian rally on a Honda Transalp, which will see him cover 3,000 in eight days in the depths of winter, to raise a target £5,000 for the charity.

I’m a very lucky boy,” says John, sales manager at Phoenix Honda, Grangemouth. “I was injured on duty in N.Ireland, but after a few operations on my hands and leg, I’m fully fit and I’ve still got all my digits."

"Me and my best mate from the military were originally planning to do the Elephant together, but he’s now injured and will be in rehab until the end of January, so I thought why not do the ride for charity? Help For Heroes seems a fitting choice under the circumstances.

The Transalp Set for the off
John’s journey will take him from his home in Scotland on 25 January through the UK, France, Germany and the Bavarian Alps to reach the Elephant Rally in
Thurmansbang, East Germany, on 27 January, where he plans to camp in sub-zero conditions before departing for the three-day trip home. And just like his namesake, John, aka ‘Yippy’, is well prepared.

I’ve been fully trained in Artic conditions, and have been fortunate enough to try all my kit in the worst of the Scottish weather,” he explains. “I’ll also be taking the new adventure range of clothing from RST, SIDI adventure boots, and the good old Alpinestar Apex gloves, plus a Snug Bug heated jacket, and an Arctic sleeping bag!

It’s not all cold comfort for John though. “I’m looking forward to taking my time and enjoying the experience,” he says. “My friends and family all think I’m nuts! But that’s because they don’t have any adventure in them.

Unlike us lot, eh? To sponsor John got to http://www.bmycharity.com/johnmclain

Honda CR-V is ‘Honestly’ the Most Popular 4x4...

The British built Honda CR-V has fought off fierce competition to be crowned Most Popular 4x4 by expert motoring website honestjohn.co.uk. The CR-V came out on top as Google Analytics data, which analysed the number of page views for each car over the last 12 months, recognised it as the most searched for 4x4 on the site. The reliability and robustness of this British built model are just some of the qualities why users are regularly searching for this car.

This is the second recognition Honda has received recently from honestjohn.co.uk after being rated as a top three performer in their analysis of MoT pass rates earlier this month.

There has been a significant increase in traffic to the CR-V review and in such a tight category with plenty of popular models, it’s done well to come out on top” said Dan Harrison, Editor of honestjohn.co.uk. “It’s rare to see increased traffic for a model that’s soon to be refreshed, but the current model CR-V continually drives high traffic for the 4x4 reviews. That said, we’ve already seen plenty of interest in search from users, months ahead of the official launch of the new model.

Dave Hodgetts, Managing Director of Honda (UK) commented: “It’s great to see honestjohn.co.uk visitors are showing such support for the CR-V and have already begun creating a buzz around the fourth generation model coming out later this year.

Spacious, versatile and comfortable, these are just some of the qualities that highlight why the CR-V has generated such interest online. The CR-V is available from £23,030 OTR and now couldn’t be a better time to get behind the wheel as customers purchasing a CR-V in SE+ specification will be upgraded to the ES-T variant. This means the addition of £2,490 worth of extra equipment including 18” alloy wheels, half leather/half alcantara upholstery, heated front seats, retractable wing mirrors, iPod connectivity and Satellite Navigation with Hands Free Telephone system, all completely free of charge.

Customers looking for that added luxury and opting for the ES-T specification will automatically receive a complimentary upgrade to EX trim. This means the addition of premium audio, full leather upholstery, panoramic roof, HID lights, auto lights and wipers, full body coloured bumpers and eight way power assisted driver seat – worth a total of £2,520. The model is also available with a range of flexible finance packages and low cost service options to help drive down ownership costs.

Keeping it in the Family !!

If you have picked up The Herald or The Daily Record today, you will have see our "Welcome to the family" banner. The reason we love this tag line so much is because everything in Phoenix, has that family feeling about it.

So what does that have to do with these cars? Well, every car in this particular advertisement, was sold new at Phoenix, traded in at Phoenix, and looked after by our manufacturer trained technicians, in preparation for the next Phoenix customer. So we hope there's a particular one that interests you, that you can test our intimate knowledge on, before taking it for a spin.

A "Professoinal" opinion on the Kia Optima...

Hi Everyone, Russell here...

I've known craig since his european tour days, watch in excitement when a local boy was leading the way in the open at Turnberry in '94, and heard him recount stories of 80 professional event wins, he also likes a good night out, so that makes him a great guy in our books.

Craig doesn't travel quite as much as when he was a younger player… however he still loves his cars, so who better to give us some feedback on the new Kia Optima… Over to craig…

This week I travelled to play in the optical express event at Tain and Brora, in gorgeous scottish highlands.

I was very happy when the guys at Phoenix Kia hooked me up with a trial of the new Kia Optima to take up, I normally drive a 5 series BMW GT which I love and great for long journeys, so what did I think of the optima, well the best description of a car in its class was EPIC, for a golfer it has a dream boot, its actually massive!!

The driving position and comfort was fantastic and the cockpit is very pleasing on the eye, but the 50 + miles to the gallon is again a golfers dream, Kia have certainly announced them on the car scene in a big way, why not pop in to the Phoenix Kia and take a test drive, you won't be disappointed.

Would I have one ? Definitely !!!

As for the golf it was a bit of a mixed bag finishing 20th where the putter was as cold as the north wind, but there's a long season ahead and many miles to be done, hopefully I will get to test a few more cars on the tour with Phoenix. Many thanks to Russell Smith for lending me the car.

Yours in Golf
Craig Ronald
