ABR takes on Elephant for charity...

John with his Honda Transalp
Our very own John McLain was featured in Adventure Bike Rider Magazine, the article is about his charity bike ride...

An ex-military ABR, who left the forces due to injury, is doing the Elephant Rally solo, to raise money for Help For Heroes.

40-year-old John Mclain (no, not that one!) is planning to tackle the gruelling Bavarian rally on a Honda Transalp, which will see him cover 3,000 in eight days in the depths of winter, to raise a target £5,000 for the charity.

I’m a very lucky boy,” says John, sales manager at Phoenix Honda, Grangemouth. “I was injured on duty in N.Ireland, but after a few operations on my hands and leg, I’m fully fit and I’ve still got all my digits."

"Me and my best mate from the military were originally planning to do the Elephant together, but he’s now injured and will be in rehab until the end of January, so I thought why not do the ride for charity? Help For Heroes seems a fitting choice under the circumstances.

The Transalp Set for the off
John’s journey will take him from his home in Scotland on 25 January through the UK, France, Germany and the Bavarian Alps to reach the Elephant Rally in
Thurmansbang, East Germany, on 27 January, where he plans to camp in sub-zero conditions before departing for the three-day trip home. And just like his namesake, John, aka ‘Yippy’, is well prepared.

I’ve been fully trained in Artic conditions, and have been fortunate enough to try all my kit in the worst of the Scottish weather,” he explains. “I’ll also be taking the new adventure range of clothing from RST, SIDI adventure boots, and the good old Alpinestar Apex gloves, plus a Snug Bug heated jacket, and an Arctic sleeping bag!

It’s not all cold comfort for John though. “I’m looking forward to taking my time and enjoying the experience,” he says. “My friends and family all think I’m nuts! But that’s because they don’t have any adventure in them.

Unlike us lot, eh? To sponsor John got to http://www.bmycharity.com/johnmclain

Something great is coming...

Kizashi! it translates roughly as something great is coming, but that's not strictly true; It's here.

After years of anticipation Suzuki's flagship model has finally reached the UK shores. Why the excitement? set aside for the moment the look and drive quality, the buzz the car has generated overseas, netting customer satisfaction and motoring journalist awards on two continents. Look at the value for money, For a D segment car at £21,995 you would be forgiven for thinking its the entry or possibly mid range model. So when you first look at the standard specification you find yourself double checking the price in disbelief.

The feature list is almost endless...

Intelligent 4 wheel drive, Bluetooth connectivity, CVT gearbox with steering mounted paddle shift, keyless entry, push button start, automatic wipers and lights, cruse control, electrically adjustable leather heated seats with 3 programmable position settings, sunroof, front and rear parking sensors and 7 airbags all as standard.

Bottom line get down to the showroom before Suzuki realize there mistake and fix the price.

A Supercharged Experience

A few weeks ago we decided to use our tuning partners at Mugen tobuild an exclusive Supercharged CR-Z iCF.

It is fair to say in the interim period Colin MacLeod, in charge of theproduct, has been getting more excited by the day!

This week, we set off to deliver our car in standard form toNorthampton.

Colin was then given the tour of the Mugen facility. The firstimpression is one of almost a hospital theatre environment. Youwill see this as the technician starts work on the CR-Z

Colin then discovered the parts store, with every Mugen goodie onthe shelves, it was hard to get him back out.

Then to the heart of the operation. Mugen have a £12.5 millionstate of the art dyno facility and believe it or not, they let Colin gethis hands on it. A kid with a new toy or what!!

A test drive was provided in Mugen’s own car, unbelievable torque. We will be making ours available soon, so please register yourinterest.

Hungry work? It must have been as Colin was later spotted with ahigh performance lunch!

We will update you when the ICF is ready for the run home, evenmore fun no doubt!!
